About

For families who love adventure from a mom of 3 who’s always planning the next trip.

Hi! I’m Verena – a busy mom of 3 kids (Maya age 10, Laila age 7 and Jackson age 5) and former high school science teacher who loves to travel, hit the road, have fun and hopefully do something educational in the process.

I traveled a lot as a kid and definitely caught the bug from my parents. Don’t get me wrong – beach vacations and pure fun excursions have their place and we enjoy those (a lot!) but whenever possible we look to mix it up with activities where kids can be exposed to something new, develop a skill or learn some history, science or culture. Sometimes we take a deep dive and prep kids with books about the place we will soon be traveling to. Other times we head for a new adventure and take in the sights and sounds as they come and let the experience unfold.

Why you may ask – because travel adds to your understanding of the world and your place in it. It fosters your kids natural curiosity and adds to your perspectives about people, cultures, history and the natural world in a way that nothing else can. It allows you to unplug from routines and reconnect with the world around you. The inevitable mishaps add to the memories and your bank of family stories.

So welcome to our outdoor classroom where I share our favorite adventures as a family of 5, home based in the suburbs of New York City.

“Travel makes one modest. You see what a tiny place you occupy in the world.” – Gustav Flaubert

Bon voyage!
